The scriptural language of“lifting up the hands that hang down and strengthen the feeble knees” or similar wording appears in the book of Job, Isaiah and Doctrine and Covenants.
The wording in Isaiah differs only slightly but the message is essentially the same. The instruction appears to be to provide verbal encouragement to the person who is so afflicted, telling them to “be strong fear not” and to trust that God will make His appearance in due time, to set things right and even to avenge wrongs that have been suffered.
